So, you’re at this random website and you’re wondering, “what the heck is this?”
Well, it’s dyo, of course!
Pronounced like Azumanga Daioh and the world’s favorite emoticon, dyo-ecksdee is our site. It is our labor of love, our thing we do in our free time. If that makes any sense. Which it doesn’t.
It is located in scenic Spartnia, home of the Bears, our favorite multi-sport sports team.
But enough of the formalities. Let’s explain a little bit, shall we?
Back in 2003, I, Biiaru, started a blog back then with a few friends of mine. Back then, my handle was Birakun, and my three friends were Elzaban, Tesseract, and Yotanua. We called the blog “ecksdee,” just to show our love for our favorite emoticon. After a while, Yotanua and Elzaban left, and by then, we had several others in their place, including Katori, Koosh, and Kitki (the KKK).
Now, sometime before we started ecksdee, I had run a forum called the dyo Lifecast with Mahalis, one of the people that I considered a “friend,” but now kind of consider a bit more of a holy figure than a friend. (He used to be a mod on a fairly popular forum I went to, and just knowing his AIM screen name made me feel special.) In truth, I had bugged him and bugged him for about a week over the time of a spring break, asking him to let me run a forum on his web hosting. Eventually, he caved, and the Lifecast was born. A few months and a name change later, dyo (then known as Ario) had to shut down because of another unruly admin (who, ironically, inspired me to start the site since I had basically stopped him from committing suicide one day) going and randomly banning me.
However, back to… a point in the past which was a bit further than we were just discussing (and goddamn, why do I have to keep writing long winded-out sentences for something which two words would likely suffice), ecksdee was having a problem. Namely, I’d wanted to get a domain name for it. It was available, but by the time my mom okayed it, it was already taken. So, recalling the past a bit, I decided (against my better judgement, possibly) to change the name of ecksdee to dyo-ecksdee, and that’s how we came to be.
We’ve gone through many changes over the past few years. We’ve lost Kitki and Koosh, as well as Tesseract, and… well, pretty much everyone from the old days who used to post on the site. The only one who I happen to have any contact with at all anymore is Tesseract. We’ve also gotten some new admins to fill the void, namely Terusama and Erik_Destler.
But, that’s all I really have for now. Until we get around to really working on this page in-depth, really the best way to find out more about us would probably be to read our posts, browse around the forums, or pop into the chat. Don’t you think?
